Happy Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day in the US, a holiday in which we recognize and remember our military heroes, who have fallen and given their lives to keep our freedoms at home. I grew up outside the United States, due to my father's job in the United Nations, so I think I have always appreciated my country more for that reason.

Last summer my family and I visited our nation's capital, Washington D.C., and had the privilege of attending the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery, which is a daily occurrence at the cemetery.

A soldier stands guard at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier and a simple ceremony is enacted to relieve one soldier and put another one in place for the next shift. The ceremony is completely silent and all you hear are the salutes and marching feet of the soldiers involved.

If you have he opportunity and means, you should visit Washington, it is an experience every American citizen should have in their lifetime.
